Used Car Exports Enter a Trust-Based Phase: Over 450,000 Units in First 8 Months
Overseas Buyers Now Come to China to Source Vehicles
"Forward-looking enterprises should extend their focus from selling a single vehicle to servicing the entire lifecycle of that vehicle, building a long-term value network in overseas markets," said Luo Lei, Vice President of the China Automobile Dealers Association, at the recently held 2026 Used Car Export Development Conference. As domestic vehicles go overseas, overseas parts supply and after-sales service systems hold enormous market potential.
This assessment stems from changes in the used car export landscape. As the business expands to vehicles with actual mileage, enterprises must address not only finding suitably priced vehicles but also proving vehicle condition, ensuring delivery, and following up on after-sales service. Converting domestic supply advantages into long-term trust from overseas clients has become the key to further expanding into international markets.
Export Volume and Structural Changes
According to data from the China Automobile Dealers Association, in the first 8 months of 2026, domestic used car exports exceeded 450,000 units. As "zero-kilometer used cars" gradually exit the market, changes in export structure and supporting service capabilities deserve closer attention.
Overseas buyers are now proactively coming to China to find reliable partners, and new energy used vehicles have become a growth point, opening new space for the industry. Meanwhile, export bases centered on roll-on/roll-off terminals are accelerating formation, with ports aggregating functions such as inspection, preparation, and trading to fill gaps in the service chain from domestic procurement to overseas delivery.
Vehicle Condition Trust as a Competitive Key
"In earlier years, export enterprises chased overseas clients; today, more and more overseas buyers spontaneously come to China to find reliable partners," Luo said. Chinese used car exports have moved from trial to deep cultivation, with increasingly mature industry ecosystems and significantly improved professional capabilities and international vision among participants.
With relatively stable vehicle conditions and high cost-performance ratios, Chinese used cars have gained acceptance in international markets, establishing stable demand bases in Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Financial, leasing, and fleet channels have released batches of vehicles aged 3-8 years with standardized usage, providing supply for export enterprises.
New energy used vehicles are seen as a new growth point. "The accumulation of Chinese new energy vehicles overseas is converting into a continuous stream of used vehicle circulation demand, representing a unique track for Chinese enterprises." However, overseas clients need to assess not only whether prices are reasonable, but also whether vehicle descriptions are accurate, deliveries are precise, and subsequent use can be guaranteed.
Port Infrastructure and Service Chain
Taking Yantai Port as an example, it is attempting to consolidate scattered functions into a centralized platform. The port has opened 21 used car trade berths, with plans to add more. Functions include coordinated inspection, preparation, trading, and logistics, aiming to reduce secondary transport costs. The port's used car zone covers 142,000 square meters, with completion expected in 2027, integrating inspection, preparation, and export functions.
Service capabilities need to extend overseas. For many small and medium-sized traders, the challenge lies not only in securing orders but also in effectively organizing inspection, preparation, customs clearance, and transportation, while ensuring stable delivery. As Luo noted, whoever can reduce the cost for clients to verify vehicle condition will have a better chance of sustaining transactions.
This platform focuses on the import and export of Chinese automotive equipment, gathering hundreds of certified Chinese automotive suppliers and connecting with global buyers. The platform achieves full transaction transparency, expands diverse cooperation opportunities, and helps both domestic and foreign parties build deep and stable cooperation bonds. Whether you are looking for vehicle manufacturers, purchasing automotive parts, or need customized procurement solutions, CNAUTO is your trusted first choice for cooperation.
